Com o lançamento, conforme anunciado anteriormente, o Kali Linux alterou a estrutura de utilizador root por defeito e também anunciou o NetHunter Rootless Edition.
Kali Linux 2020.1
No início deste ano, a equipa do kali Linux da Offensive Security anunciou a mudança para o modelo “utilizador padrão sem root”, uma das grandes mudanças nesta versão 2020.1.
O kali herdou a política padrão dos seus antecessores (BackTrack Linux). A partir do Kali 2020.1, não há mais uma conta de superutilizador (root) e o utilizador padrão agora não possui privilégios.
The change was made due to security reasons, so no more root/toor it should be kali/kali.
Outra mudança notável é a Imagem do instalador, o Kali não oferece mais imagens para todos os ambientes de desktop. Em vez disso, é fornecida uma única imagem e solicitado que o utilizador selecione seu ambiente de área de trabalho.
A nova edição também permite que os utilizadores selecionem as ferramentas a serem incluídas na instalação. Para instalacões de software adicional, é necessário uma ligação à Internet.
Com a imagem do Instalador, o “live mode” não está incluído. Caso pretenda essa funcionalidade, terá de obter essa imagem em antemão.
ARM images for 2020.1 continue to run as root by default and the Pinebook Pro isn’t included in the 2020.1 release, “We are still working on getting it added, and as soon as it is ready we will post it.”
NetHunter Rootless
A plataforma para pentesting móvel também vem com novas melhorias, uma das principais mudanças é que já não há a depêndencia de ter o telefone como root para executar o Kali NetHunter.
As três edições do NetHunter são:
- NetHunter – Needs rooted devices with custom recovery and patched kernel. Has no restrictions. Device-specific images are available here.
- NetHunter Light – Needs rooted devices with custom recovery but no custom kernel. Has minor restrictions, i.e. no WiFi injection or HID support. Architecture specific images are available here.
- NetHunter Rootless – Installable on all stock standard, unmodified devices using Termux. Some limitations, like lack of db support in Metasploit and no root permissions. Installation instruction is available here.
With the NetHunter Rootless, the non-root user also has full privileges in the chroot due to how proot containers work.
Theming & Kali-Undercover
Novos temas foram incluídos para utilizadores do Gnome, que incluem as versões clara e escura. Os ícones usados no menu também foram substituídos.
Enhancements did with Kali-Undercover mode to make it feel even more like using a Windows operating system.
